Dr. Patel is a native of Atlanta and he graduated from the University of Georgia with honors, where he received a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. He received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. Dr. Patel completed his pediatric residency at Westchester Medical Center/Maria Fereri Children’s Hospital in New York. He then completed his fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill-Cornell Medical Center.
Prior to coming back home to Atlanta, Dr. Patel practiced in Columbia, South Carolina for five years and was a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He was then in private practice at Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates for eight years, where he helped AGA found the pediatric gastroenterology division. During his time there, he served as office pod medical director for the pediatric offices and was also a member of the quality improvement committee. He was also an adjunct assistant professor of pediatrics with Morehouse University School of Medicine.
Dr. Patel has published in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. He has been listed annually since 2016 as a “Top Doctor” in Atlanta Magazine.
Dr. Patel maintains an active involvement and membership in the American Academy of Pediatrics and North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.
Dr. Patel brings with him extensive experience and a passion to help children with digestive diseases and is committed to delivering high-quality patient-centered care. His areas of clinical interest include celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), constipation and feeding difficulties.
Dr. Patel is an avid sports fanatic of our local teams, especially the (world champion!) Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs. In addition to travelling and hiking, Dr. Patel enjoys goofing around with his two kids and spending time with his lovely wife.
