About

Jay Hochman was born and raised in Chattanooga.

Dr. Hochman has served as section chief of gastroenterology at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Scottish Rite). He currently represents pediatric gastroenterology on the Pharmacy and Nutrition Committee for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Prior to joining GI Care for Kids, Dr. Hochman coordinated the medical care of liver transplant candidates and recipients as part of the Egleston Pediatric Group.

While completing his fellowship training in Cincinnati, Ohio, he received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for his molecular biology research involving the gastrointestinal tract. He was also recognized with a Best Research award.

Dr. Hochman has authored numerous publications, case reports, review articles, and textbook chapters on a variety of pediatric gastrointestinal problems. His most recent studies/research have focused on improving yield for pediatric endoscopy and a treatment for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Dr. Hochman has served as an invited speaker for national campaigns to improve the evaluation and treatment of viral hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, celiac disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). As a member of NASPGHAN, he has helped develop educational materials on a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver diseases, which are used across the country.

Dr. Hochman is nationally recognized for his pediatric gastroenterology blog, www.gutsandgrowth.com and associated Twitter account, @gutsandgrowth. The blog is geared toward medical professionals and has more than 2,000 followers and about 4,000 blog posts.

Dr. Hochman is married and has two adult sons. He enjoys hiking, reading, swimming, and playing tennis in his free time. He and his family are avid baseball fans.
