About

Dr. Dinesh G. Patel spent his childhood traveling between his native Preston, England, and South Georgia before ultimately making Georgia his home and completing high school there. Dr. Patel then matriculated to the University of Georgia, receiving his bachelor of science in microbiology. He earned his doctor of medicine at the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine with Texas Children’s Hospital. He remained at Baylor College for his subspecialty training in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition. During his fellowship, Dr. Patel’s research focused on rotavirus pathogenesis. His findings were published in the Journal of Virology.

After completing his fellowship and earning dual board certifications in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology in 2003, Dr. Patel joined GI Care for Kids. He has enjoyed caring for patients from infancy through college with various gastrointestinal issues. Dr. Patel manages complex cases involving inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, protein-losing disorders, as well as genetic disorders with GI components. In addition to decades of experience with endoscopy and colonoscopy, he is one of the few physicians at the practice skilled at video capsule endoscopy interpretation.

Dr. Patel remains an active supporter of the national Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. He has acted as camp physician for Camp Oasis, a summer camp for children with Crohn’s and colitis. Additionally, he is the lead organizer for GI Care for Kid’s participation in the annual CCFA walk fundraiser. Dr. Patel serves in a leadership role on the executive committee for the practice and is the medical director of the infusion center. For the past decade, he has served on the medical executive committee of the Atlanta Outpatient Surgical Center.

Dr. Patel maintains an active involvement and membership in the American Academy of Pediatrics and North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.

In his personal time, Dr. Patel enjoys spending time with his twin sons and their loving cat. Since his time at UGA, he has been a passionate fan of college football. His other interests include running, yoga, and automobiles (although he currently owns one vehicle with no engine).
