Dr. Asiya Shakir graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia with dual Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Religion. She went on to attend the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) and completed her pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia in Augusta, GA. During her time at MCG, Dr. Shakir was recognized for her dedication to teaching and research. Dr. Shakir completed her pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Oklahoma where she received several awards for her research in quality improvement in children with inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Shakir, who is board-certified in both Pediatric Gastroenterology and General Pediatrics, practices general gastroenterology and has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles on a wide variety of topics. Her scholarly work, which she has presented locally and nationally, includes cannabis hyperemesis syndrome, gastrointestinal bleeding, gastrointestinal motility, gastrointestinal anatomical variation, and non alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Outside of her medical practice, Dr. Shakir enjoys writing, community service and advocacy, and raising her two children.
