About

Dr. Steven Liu was born in the suburbs of Chicago and was raised in northern Florida and the Washington Metropolitan area. He graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, where he performed bench research studying chromosomal imbalances in cancer cells. He earned his Doctorate in Medicine degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his residency in Pediatrics at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He completed his fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where he performed translational research in inflammatory bowel disease and chronic granulomatous disease.

Dr. Liu joined GI Care for Kids in 2007. He has published numerous basic science manuscripts, clinical research papers, case reports, and review articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, and he has written multiple medical textbook chapters. He has been a lecturer at many state and national general pediatric and pediatric gastroenterology conferences. He is an active participant in the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, and Nutrition (NASPGHAN), serving as faculty at conferences to provide career guidance for pediatric gastroenterologists-in-training. At GI Care For Kids, he is the Physician Champion for the electronic health record system (Epic), helping to build, test, and implement the technology components of the practice. He also serves on the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) Epic Physician Oversight Committee and multiple CHOA steering committees related to Epic. He has also enjoyed being one of the camp physicians at Camp Oasis, the summer camp for children with inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr. Liu’s hobbies include violin (he has played with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, performed at Carnegie Hall, and performed in orchestral tours in Russia, Korea, and Portugal), exploring the Atlanta culinary scene, watching baseball and hockey, and spending time with his wife and two children.
