About

Dr. Garza was born and raised in Mexico City. He joined the GI Care for Kids family in 2013. His training and interest in neurogastroenterology and motility bring unique, specialized skills to the practice – GI Care for Kids is currently among only a few centers in the U.S. able to offer advanced motility studies for our patients.

Prior to joining GI Care for Kids, Dr. Garza was an assistant professor of pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, one of the leading centers in the country for gastrointestinal care. He taught fellows and residents, performed motility studies and therapeutic endoscopy procedures with a particular focus on helping patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease, achalasia, constipation, fecal incontinence, gastroparesis, intestinal pseudo-obstruction, tracheoesophageal fistula, Hirschsprung’s disease, anorectal malformations, rumination, and Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, among others.

Dr. Garza has presented his work and has been invited to participate in more than 100 national and international lectures. He has authored research papers and book chapters on various pediatric GI topics, including constipation, Hirschsprung’s disease, GERD, acid suppression, chest pain, anorectal malformations, gastroparesis, dysphagia, antroduodenal and esophageal manometry, and EndoFLIP (endolumenal functional lumen imaging probe) technology.

Dr. Garza is an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine. He also serves as medical director of the neurogastroenterology and motility program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, as well as co-medical director of its gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition program.
