L. Glen Lewis, M.D.
A native of West Monroe, Louisiana Dr. Lewis graduated cum laude from Louisiana State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. He subsequently obtained his Doctorate in Medicine, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.
Following pediatric residency at Vanderbilt, Dr. Lewis pursued fellowship training in gastroenterology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, one of the leading centers in the country for research and clinical care of children with digestive diseases. He received the American Gastroenterology Association Senior Research Award for basic science research involving a GI tract hormone, guanylin, and extended his research focus as a Procter Research Scholar in 1992. Dr. Lewis remained at Cincinnati Children's Hospital as a clinician educator for the next 7 years focusing on teaching fellows, residents, and medical students, as well as delivering quality medical care to the population of pediatric GI patients in the southeastern Ohio and surrounding regions. Dr. Lewis served as physician leader of the Schubert - Martin Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, focusing on Quality of Life and outcomes research for pediatric patients with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's disease.
In 2000, Dr. Lewis received the CCFA Distinguished Leadership Award for his involvement with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. Dr. Lewis has published numerous basic science, clinical research and clinical review articles, abstracts, and book chapters on numerous GI topics including diarrheal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and diseases of the gallbladder.
In 2003, Dr. Lewis joined the GI Care for Kids family. He is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, and Hepatology, the American Gastroenterology Association and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. He has brought an outstanding breadth of knowledge and experience along with empathy and compassion to our practice.
